My friend wants his first love to be his last love and because of that, he has not been in a single relationship. After some careful thought, I should note that doing so is a terrible decision.

Relationships are supposed to provide personal growth. As you move between relationships, you learn more about yourself. You learn what you really want in a relationship because your perception changes as you get older and as things happen. What mattered yesterday may not matter tomorrow or even today. I think it is impossible to get the bullseye on one try. Everyone hopes to get it right the first time, what makes you think you can?

Sure, you can wait for “The One” by not settling for anything else, but you are projecting this angelic image onto a mere mortal. Being with that mythical creature gives you everything to lose and once that happens, you’re probably going to find yourself in worse shape than if you didn’t hold out. Yes, you can fight for he/she, but what if they just don’t feel the same?

You took a pass on several people because they just weren’t your type. For all you know, they were the perfect person, but you just couldn’t fit them into the frame. You should really change that mentality.

Take risks in finding love instead of relying on a single shot. You can’t be clutch like Michael Jordan in this game. You have to have a strong conviction, experience, and the ability to recover from your losses. Only then can you get that ring.
